Ever heard of the NuMex Halloween?

The Chili Pepper Institute's NuMex Halloween Pepper

With the whole "green" and "organic" movement there is a growing population of people that produce their own fruits and vegetables - usually made with soil from compostable materials.  I began growing my own vegetables a year ago and now produce 50% of my vegetable consumption in pots on my back deck!  I think I could get that percentage up to 75% if I could find an organic way to keep the gecko population away from my plants!

There is also a subset of home growing enthusiasts that grow ornamental peppers designed especially for holidays.  These types of peppers are cultivated both for consumption and for visual aesthetics in a self-sustaining or in my case, a pot garden (the legal kind!).  The Chili Pepper Institute has a genetically modified pepper designed specifically for Halloween.  The NuMex Halloween progresses through its growth stages beginning with the color orange and eventually turns a black color at maturity.  The NuMex Halloween grows upright on the plant, is bullet shaped, and has a sweet flavor with a low-medium heat rating.  As one of the smaller plants in the genus capsicum, this pepper typically matures at a length of 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.

Unfortunately, because of it's low production, there are not any sauces made with the NuMex Halloween, but we do have many sauces that are perfect for Halloween.  The mini's we offer are great to introduce beginners to our chili-head world!

Hope you have a very happy and "hot" Halloween!!

Pete
